Man in Nature

There’s a sense of cinematic heritage woven throughout, from the child-centred storytelling to the blend of hardship and wonder that defines their journey. Salvatores leans into that lineage with affection, balancing humour and sentiment while allowing the emotional core — friendship, displacement and the search for belonging — to come through clearly. The result is both intimate and sweeping, a film that nods to the past while inviting a new audience into a timeless story of migration and hope.

Film Notes

A sweeping, heartfelt journey of hope, migration and finding a place to belong.

Oscar-winning director Gabriele Salvatores takes inspiration from an unfinished idea by Federico Fellini and shapes it into something both nostalgic and distinctly his own. Napoli to New York begins in the rubble of post-war Naples, where two children — resourceful, resilient and full of imagination — set their sights on America. Their journey echoes the great traditions of Italian cinema, drawing on the spirit of neorealism while embracing a more expansive, adventurous tone as their story moves from the streets of Naples to the vast unknown of New York.
