FILM NOTES
A tender, sunlit portrait of adolescence, longing and the complicated search for belonging.
Set in a coastal Aotearoa town during the summer of 2006, Paloma Schneideman’s debut follows fourteen-year-old Sid Bookman through a season of restless reinvention. Drawn towards an older crowd, she experiments with friendship, desire and the newly expanding world of MSN and internet chatrooms. Executive-produced by Jane Campion, the film premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.

Ani Palmer gives Sid a vivid mixture of bravado, vulnerability and curiosity, while the sunlit beach setting holds both freedom and danger. Schneideman’s naturalistic approach captures adolescence without smoothing away its confusion, shame or intensity. Tender, candid and quietly transporting, this distinctly local coming-of-age drama invites audiences to remember how fiercely we once longed to be seen.
