Beginning in Český Krumlov, the Bohemian hometown of Egon Schiele’s mother, Michele Mally’s documentary traces the emotional and geographic roots of the artist’s radical vision. Paintings, writings, poetry and archival footage illuminate his relationships with his mother, sister Gerti, wife Edith Harms, and beloved model Wally Neuzil, while connections with Franz Kafka evoke the cultural unease of the declining Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Narrated by Erika Carletto and enriched by Laura Masotto’s original music, the film approaches Schiele’s art as both intimate confession and creative rebellion.
