On 29 January 2024, Palestine Red Crescent dispatchers received an emergency call from Hind Rajab, a young girl trapped inside a car in Gaza. Kaouther Ben Hania reconstructs the volunteers’ desperate rescue effort using dramatised performances alongside the authentic audio recordings from that day. The film won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival.
Contained largely within the dispatch centre, the film draws its power from attentive performances by Saja Kilani, Motaz Malhees, Clara Khoury and Amer Hlehel. Their attempts to comfort Hind while navigating the barriers delaying an ambulance create an intensely immediate experience. Compassionate and formally restrained, this is challenging but essential cinema about bearing witness, preserving memory and recognising the human life within a headline.
