FILM NOTES
A winningly strange island fable about belonging, change and daring to imagine another life.
Isla and Sandy have spent nearly 30 years alone on a windswept Scottish island, hunting seabirds, conversing with mythical creatures and following traditions inherited from their vanished parents. Their peculiar harmony is disrupted by Daniel, an anxious council official carrying paperwork, vegan food and news that the mainland intends to relocate them.

Louis Paxton’s inventive debut blends deadpan comedy, folklore and playful animation into an affectionate story about identity and isolation. Gayle Rankin and Grant O’Rourke create a wonderfully unusual sibling bond, while Domhnall Gleeson brings gentle awkwardness to their unwanted visitor. Winner of Sundance’s NEXT Innovator Award, this warm-hearted curiosity invites audiences into a world where ancient stories meet Wi-Fi—and change arrives wearing sensible shoes.
