FILM NOTES
A profoundly moving testament to memory, perseverance and one woman’s refusal to accept silence.
The Lost Children of Tuam dramatises historian Catherine Corless’s investigation into the Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home in County Galway. Her painstaking examination of death certificates revealed records for 796 children without corresponding burial records, prompting a determined campaign for acknowledgement and justice. Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s screenplay draws upon a New York Times article by Dan Barry, with Liam Neeson among the film’s producers.

Monica Dolan gives a restrained and deeply compassionate performance as Corless, capturing the quiet tenacity behind an investigation that confronted church, state and community silence. Frank Berry approaches this painful history with clarity and dignity, keeping the focus on remembrance rather than sensation. Winner of Best Irish Film at the Galway Film Fleadh, it is sobering, humane and ultimately inspiring.
